What do you think about what's out there for learning to read material?

How many of you have looked for books to use when teaching someone (child, teen, adult) to read only to become frustrated at what is available because even the "beginner" books are not simple enough for new readers?

I started this company because I have taught my kids, as well as adults,- to read and felt that the beginner and phonics books out there were still too difficult for new readers because they had words like "Max goes to school". How can a new reader, just learning the sounds get through the word school?

Books I did find that were simple enough were black and white, "boring" illustrations and just offered no incentive to even pick up the book. Therefore, I set out to design a reading system that not only attract readers based on their age (kids, teens, adults) with vibrant illustrations but also inspire them to keep going with a reward system that promotes confidence and follow through.

There are many electronic games out there today to teach by playing a game, but how quickly do they figure out how get around the system to their reward? On My Own Reading systems bring the reader back to the basics of holding a book in their hands and learning to read with little guidance required.

Please tell me your thoughts about learning to read. What sparks your interest?
